Brief Biography of Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Faruque
Dr. Abdullah Al Faruque is currently working as a Professor and Dean, Faculty of Law of the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He is a former Head of the Department of Law, University of Chittagong. He holds LL.B. (hons.) degree and LL.M. degree from University of Dhaka and PhD degree from Dundee University, the UK. He had been awarded Commonwealth Scholarship in 2002 to pursue his PhD programme in Petroleum Law in the UK. He was a post doctoral fellow at the Dundee University during 2009-2010 under Commonwealth Staff Fellowship. He has published three books- Petroleum Contracts: Stability and Risk Management in Developing Countries, Essentials of Legal Research and International Human Rights Law: Protection Mechanisms and Contemporary Issues. He has also published numerous articles in national and international referred law journals. He is acting as Chair of the Executive Committee of Centre for Climate Justice-Bangladesh (CCJ-B).
Brief Biography of Advocate M. Hafijul Islam Khan
Hafijul Islam Khan is an environmental lawyer, working for last thirteen years on legal issues related to environment, natural resource management and climate change. He worked with Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), an NGO based in Bangladesh for nine years, and also with Germanwatch, an NGO based in Germany. Mr. Khan also worked as consultant with Legal Response Initiative (LRI), UK, UNDP-Bangladesh, Asian Development Bank (ADB), IUCN-Bangladesh, CNRS, Oxfam-Bangladesh, Winrock International, Environ-Consulting Services-Malaysia and Germanwatch-Germany. He is also teaching environmental law and policy at Independent University-Bangladesh (IUB) as adjunct faculty. Mr. Khan is a member of the core team of LDCs climate negotiators group for loss and damage associated with climate change, through Bangladesh Delegation since 2011. Mr. Khan, completed LL.B and LL.B from University of Dhaka and the second LL.M obtained from Central European University, Hungary under New York Board of Education, USA. He also completed number of diplomas and short courses on environment, climate change and natural resource management in various reputed universities include University of California, USA, Copenhagen Law School, Denmark, Oxford University, USA, Washington College of Law, USA, Jounsuu University, Finland, Siena University, Italy. One of hisrecent publications include: Book Chapter:Legal and Policy Responses to Loss and Damage associated with Climate Change, OC Ruppel, C Roschmann & K Ruppel-Schlichting (Eds), Legal Responses and Global Responsibility Volume II,Nomos Publishers, Germany, 2013. He is acting as Secretary General and Executive Director of Centre for Climate Justice-Bangladesh (CCJ-B).
Brief Biography of Advocate Jamal Hossain
Mr. Jamal Hossain, is an Advocate of Supreme Court of Bangladesh and working for last twelve years with particular interest on filing writ petitions. It’s worth mentioning that public interest litigations are filed in Bangladesh under the Writ Jurisdiction before High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh which motivated him to work on environment and climate change issues. Mr. Hossain worked at his early professional era on arsenic litigation, which was filed before the UK Court and also worked with Khan Foundation, an NGO, working on development sector in Bangladesh. Prior to initiate his profession as a lawyer, he completed his LL.B (Hons) and LL.M degrees from Law Department, University of Dhaka. He is acting as Treasure in the Executive Committee of Centre for Climate Justice-Bangladesh (CCJ-B).
Brief Biography of Advocate Sharaban Tahura Zaman
Ms. Sharaban Tahura Zaman, is an environmental lawyer working on environment, disaster management and climate changes issues. She is working as research assistant with Centre for Climate Justice-Bangladesh (CCJ-B). She is also working with Northern University as a Lecturer. She worked with ActionAid Bangladesh as Research Fellow, with Disaster Management and Climate Justice Unit. Prior to initiate her profession as environmental lawyer, she completed her LL.B (Hons) and LL.M with distinction from Law Department, University of Dhaka.
