M. Hafijul Islam Khan (Hafij Khan)

Adv. M. Hafijul Islam Khan [Hafij Khan] is the Founder & Director of the Centre for Climate Justice-Bangladesh (CCJ-B) and an Advocate at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh who serves as Co-coordinator of the Loss and Damage Team for the LDCs Climate Group at UNFCCC. He currently holds several positions including Co-chair of the Executive Committee (ExCom) of Warsaw International Mechanism (WIM) for Loss and Damage at UNFCCC, Advisor to LDCs, Member of the Fund for Responding Loss and Damage (FRLD) at UNFCCC, Expert Chair for the Climate Justice Theme at Climate Law and Governance Initiative (CLGI).  He is also an Alternate Member of Paris Agreement Implementation and Compliance Committee (PAICC). He is one of the champions from ExCom to the Task Force on Displacement at UNFCCC. He also acted as an Advisor and a Member (short time), to the Transitional Committee for Loss and Damage Fund at UNFCCC.  Now he is an advisor to a Loss and Damage Fund Bord Member from LDCs. Previously, he was an Advisor and a Member for a short period of the Transitional Committee for FRLD, and worked as Research Fellow at New York University Law School, USA. Currently he is a PhD candidate in SEED, University of Waterloo, Canada.

Hafij Khan is involved with climate change negotiations for more than a decade, and contributed a lot to develop global and national policy and institutional frameworks on loss and damage associated with climate change. Also, as the member of the aforementioned UN committees, he is helping the global loss and damage communities to implement the relevant policies to act to address loss and damage.
